Hey, I’m Kent, Director and co-owner of Symmetrix Exercise & Rehab. I’m pretty new to the health industry but I have a masters of Science so running a kinesiology business is not such a reach. I help manage the team, oversee content and marketing and support our operations.
My professional background is in geology. I have an MSc. from McGill and I worked for about 10 years in mining exploration. I worked for small exploration companies and mega mines, from Australia to Alaska with a long stint in the Democratic Republic of Congo. I was managing teams, camps and drill projects in remote places. Geology took me all around the world.
When I returned to Vancouver in 2014 I decided to pivot and shift my career to fundraising and sales. That decision aligned my career more closely with my skillset and passions for cycling and helping people. I jump-started my business career with a certificate from UVIC and finished top of the class. Soon after I launched an e-commerce site selling an original cycling product which I still run today with Dasha’s help.
Back in Vancouver I established a fundraising team in the city for an environmental non-profit based in Victoria, and helped another charity achieve a banner year by throwing events and running digital campaigns. After a couple years in the nonprofit sector I was ready for a bigger challenge.
Dasha and I bought Symmetrix in 2018. It’s been an incredible experience during an uncertain time, but we’ve grown the business each year. Today we’ve got a team of around 10 and have managed to attract some great talent. I’m proud that Symmetrix was voted best kinesiology studio for 2022 and that my business partner Dasha won Kinesiology of the Year in 2022.The business has also received almost 150 5-star reviews on google and been awarded B-Corp certification which is awarded to high impact businesses.
When I’m not running Symmetrix I’m among my plants, DJing for friends or baking a loaf of bread. I love longer kayak and cycling adventures, I’ve kayaked Clayoquot sound and cycled from Vancouver to Loreto, Mexico. I live 3 blocks from where I grew up in East Van with my partner Mary.
